Talking Coronavirus with Dr. Tom Mackin

In this episode, Dr. Tom Mackin and I discuss Coronavirus/COVID 19 modeling and how it can be modeled with a systems dynamics model. Specifically an S.I.R. model which is a model used in epidemiology where the S stands for the "susceptible" population, the I stands for "infected" and the R stands for "removed." When applying the model to the United States or North Dakota for that matter, the numbers aren't promising. The good news is that the measures that are being undertaken for social distancing have shown to greatly reduce the speed at which a virus can spread which buys us time to not only reduce loads on our medical infrastructure, but also to work on vaccines and treatments.
